Annual Walking Challenge

Our goal is to increase people’s awareness of how far they walk and the benefits of walking. Our plan is to achieve this in a fun and friendly competitive environment.

We welcome all residents of Spirit River, Rycroft and the entire Central Peace to join us in this challenge!

Here are just a few ways to rack up your steps and top the leaderboard:

Park in the furthest parking spot. Take the stairs. Walk to the store. Walk around the room while watching tv or talking on the phone. Go for a 10-minute walk after every meal. Dance. Go for a walk with a friend, rather than a coffee. Walk your dog. Hop on a treadmill.

The 30-Day challenge begins on September 26th and ends on October 25th.

So, let’s get started!

Gather three or more of your friends, neighbours, coworkers to form a group. Give your group a clever, unique name and then just start movin’.

To track your steps, you will wear a pedometer EVERY day, ALL day - at home, at work and everywhere in between - and keep a daily record. If you need one, pedometers will be available for purchase at the Clinic.

Each week, one member of your group will submit the tally for the entire week and the daily average for each group will be posted on a map of the Peace Country that will be displayed at the Clinic. Also, weekly updates of each group’s progress and standing will be published in the Central Peace Signal.

To join the challenge, pick up your registration form at Central Peace Health Centre or request a copy from Deadline for registration is September 20th.
